Brainstorming Barrow Farms

Sketch on Procreate for iPad

Barrow Farms.*

Barrow Farms is an eco-friendly farm model. This farm mainly produces and supplies organic agricultural items through several retail systems across the United States. They also do boxes and you can choose what goes into your box, depending on you personal taste, including meat, veggies, fruits, milk, cheese and more.

Anyhoo.

One of the things that stood out for me ( and the reason why the brand imagery is what it is ) is that every wheelbarrow had a chicken hanging out on them. They just perched up on them and remained; even the workers wouldn’t move them or shoo them away. It’s as if they were an integral part of the space. Mascots. The unique thing that I noticed was they always faced forward on the wheelbarrow, never backwards. When they were being carted around especially- always facing front. It made me think about The Spirit of Ecstasy. It’s the bonnet ornament sculpture on Rolls-Royce cars. It is in the form of a woman leaning forwards with her arms outstretched behind and above her. Billowing cloth runs from her arms to her back, resembling wings. This was the thought that was going around in my head as I made my notes.

Here is a page from my quick sketch and colour palette notes. The colours came about while taking really bad screen shots as they showed me around on FaceTime. I did take the time to refine the selection and made the RGB notes as a starting point. The pairing idea was for a lot of the marketing material we were discussing but those are subject to change. But all in all, I do like the colour palette that emerged. it’s earthy, but not boho. The font needs a good think. Should I go for a custom typeface? (No, there is no budget for that!)

Let’s see.
